Qos evaluation in SDWLAN

Abstract

Summary

Local Area Networks (LAN) based on the IEEE 802.11 standard represent the largest implementation of wireless network technology in the world and have accelerated the growth of applications that require special configurations to ensure quality of service (QoS). In the search for answers to the growing demands on today's networks that offer an efficient solution for design, architecture and management, Software Defined Networks (SDN) have emerged. Wireless users have been increasing, however there are traditional networks that do not have QoS policies configured that allow prioritizing the necessary services. This work focuses on simulating a software-defined wireless local area network (SDWLAN) based on QoS rules for a campus network, based on the advantages that SDNs have for this type of network. The proposal contemplates an SDN controller, although greater emphasis is placed on the use of access points (AP) that allow the installation of the OpenWRT operating system that enables the installation of virtual switches. The results of the proposed network simulation indicate that it is possible to improve the transmission ratio distribution based on defined priority terms for the network traffic.
