Local development and economic integration in the town of Subteniente López: a common future

The global economy was affected to a large extent by globalization, which as a multidimensional term refers to economic and technological, cultural, political and environmental issues, relating the fact that more and more an integrated planet is being configured and interrelated. The research gives an account of the problem of the border town of Subteniente López, located in the southern zone of the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, which presents an absence in the generation of employment, lack of facilities to promote the sales of local products ( handicrafts) manufactured by the community, conflicts related to the access that connected the town to the free zone of Belize and a systematic increase in taxes that impede the economic and social stability of the producers. With this preamble, the objective of the research is to analyze the socio-economic situation that surrounds the town of Subteniente López, in order to design strategies that contribute to local development, the economic integration of the town and the tourism increase to the Southern area of the State. Through a qualitative research approach and the case study as a research method, the preliminary findings have highlighted that despite the commercial advantages of the free zone, municipal management as a tool of any administration is not present in Mexico or Belize. The above has triggered in the last ten years, precariousness, underdevelopment and social conflicts in the town under study.
