Management, conservation and identification of epiphytic plants and their phorophytes in the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas’s campus.

Abstract

Epiphytes and phorophytes provide multiple benefits in the ecosystems where they live. It is essential to promote the care and conservation of these species by encouraging proper management. The objective of this work is to identify the species of epiphytic plants and the respective phorophytes, according to their taxonomy, found in the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas’s campus. For the development of the research, the qualitative method is applied in the collection of data related to the distribution and management of the species on the university campus. The data collection is carried out with photographic images and the collection of individuals belonging to these species. As a result of the work, 8 species of epiphytic plants were identified, widely distributed in the phorophytes of the studied sector. The observations showed hyperepiphytic and pseudoepiphytic behaviors, and also found species of phorophytes overpopulated by epiphytes.

Resumen

Las plantas epífitas y los forófitos proveen de múltiples beneficios en los ecosistemas donde habitan. Es fundamental promover el cuidado y conservación de estas especies fomentando un manejo adecuado. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo identificar las especies de plantas epífitas y los respectivos forófitos, según su taxonomía, que se encuentran en el campus de la Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se aplica el método cualitativo en la recopilación de los datos relacionados con la distribución y el manejo de las especies en el campus universitario. Se realiza la toma del dato con imágenes fotográficas y la colecta de individuos pertenecientes a esas especies. Como resultado del trabajo se identificaron 8 especies de plantas epífitas, ampliamente distribuidas en los forófitos del sector estudiado. En las observaciones se apreciaron comportamientos de hiperepifitismo y pseudoepifitismo, también hallaron especies de forófitos sobrepoblados por epífitas.
