Sectorization in the optimization of drinking water networks

Abstract

The present work tries to emphasize the importance of the Sectorization of Aqueduct Networks; as a program of great relevance in the delivery, distribution and control of flows, increasing the efficiency of the network through the regulation of the pressure in the pipes, the reduction of leaks, the installation of sectioning valves and the macro and micro measurement of the Hydraulic Sectors; with special focus on the Lower Beach Zone Sector, belonging to the Ariguanabo Supply System, which currently presents the worst conditions in terms of its water resources.

WaterGems V8i software was used for the hydraulic analysis of the distribution network

To determine the percentage of leaks, and the status of the existing networks, technical visits were made to the study area, and the information was reconciled with the System Operator.

To determine the area of the sector, the information provided by the Department of Unregistered Water was initially used, and based on the results obtained from the modeling and calibration of the hydraulic model, and the determination of specific objectives in the area, the modifications to it.

Resumen

El presente trabajo pretende destacar la importancia de la Sectorización de Redes de Acueducto; como un programa de gran relevancia en la entrega, distribución y control de caudales, incrementando la eficiencia de la red mediante la regulación de la presión en las tuberías, la reducción de fugas, la instalación de válvulas de seccionamiento y la macro y micromedición de los Sectores Hidráulicos; con especial enfoque en el Sector Zona Baja de Playa, perteneciente al Sistema de Abasto Ariguanabo, que actualmente presenta las peores condiciones en cuanto a sus recursos hídricos.

Para el análisis hidráulico de la red de distribución se utilizó el software WaterGems V8i.

Para le determinación del porcentaje de fugas, y el estado de las redes existentes, se realizaron visitas técnicas a la zona de estudio, y se concilió la información con el Operador del Sistema.

Para la determinación del área del sector, se usó inicialmente la información brindada por el Departamento de Aguas no Registradas, y a partir de los resultados obtenidos de la modelación y calibración del modelo hidráulico, y de la determinación de objetivos específicos en el área, se realizaron modificaciones a la misma.
