ELEMENTS OF UNIQUENESS IN THE URBAN TREES OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARA

Abstract

The use of plants by man has a long and interesting history, since since their beginnings, plants have satisfied very diverse biological, cultural and economic needs. The city of Santa Clara is a human settlement, created in the second half of the 17th century, which has a rich history since its founding. The city has been growing over the years. The urbanization itself has encouraged the development of open spaces for leisure and recreation. With the objective of determining and knowing about the tree species present in the urban perimeter of the city, the research was carried out. During the research, 174 botanical species were reported, distributed in 120 genera and 41 botanical families. The families with the greatest number of species present: Arecaceae, Fabaceae, Moraceae. Species that have not been reported in similar works in the country were detected. The presence of species, with a single specimen, in the floristic heritage of the city, if its preservation is desired, the need to implement measures for its preservation is imposed.

Resumen

La utilización de las plantas por el hombre tiene una larga e interesante historia, pues desde sus inicios, los vegetales, han satisfecho muy diversas necesidades, biológicas, culturales y económicas. La ciudad de Santa Clara, es un asentamiento humano, creado en la segunda mitad del siglo XVII, que cuenta en su haber con una rica historia desde su fundación. La ciudad ha ido creciendo con el transcurso de los años. La propia urbanización, ha fomentado el desarrollo de espacios abiertos para el ocio y el esparcimiento. Con el objetivo de determinar y conocer acerca de las especies arbóreas, presentes en el perímetro urbano la ciudad, se efectuó la investigación. Durante la pesquisa se reportaron 174 especies botánicas, distribuidas en 120 géneros y 41 familias botánicas. Las familias con mayor número de especies presentes: Arecaceae, Fabaceae, Moraceae. Se detectaron especies que no se han reportado en trabajos similares, en el país. La presencia de especies, con un solo ejemplar, en el patrimonio florístico de la ciudad, si se desea su preservación, se impone la necesidad de implementar medidas para su preservación.
