Abstract
The present work is aimed at evaluating the removal efficiency of the main pollutants in the wastewater treatment plant of the Abel Santamaría International Airport. The characterization of the influent and effluent wastewater was carried out according to standard water and wastewater methods. The effluent wastewater complies with the average maximum permissible limit of the Cuban discharge standard for receiving body A, although most of the parameters present values close to or equal to the limit. The treatment plant shows organic matter removal efficiencies close to 50%, which, although it achieves pollutant removal below the discharge limit, is lower than what should be obtained for this treatment, which contains a septic tank and aerobic biological treatment. The removal of nutrients is lower than that of organic matter with values below 50 %.
Resumen
El presente trabajo está dirigido a evaluar la eficiencia de remoción de los principales contaminantes en la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales del aeropuerto internacional Abel Santamaría. La caracterización del agua residual afluente y efluente se realizo según los métodos estándar de aguas y aguas residuales. Las aguas residuales efluentes cumplen con el límite máximo permisible promedio de la norma cubana de vertimiento para cuerpo receptor A, aunque la mayoría de los parámetros presentan valores cercanos o iguales al límite. La planta de tratamiento presenta eficiencias de remoción de materia orgánica cercana al 50 %, que aunque logra la remoción de los contaminantes por debajo del límite de vertimiento es inferior a la que debía obtenerse para este tratamiento que contiene un tanque séptico y un tratamiento biológico aerobio. La remoción de nutrientes es menor que la de la materia orgánica con valores inferiores al 50 %.
