THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS IN THE CUBAN UNIVERSITY. MAIN CHALLENGES FOR AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

Abstract

The incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies into the academic field is of great importance in the current context. Covid 2019 impacts the teaching-learning process by encouraging teachers and students to find new ways of exchanging knowledge that are less and less traditional. Hence, virtual classrooms present singular importance in the current context for the world and for Cuba. This implies a learning process centered fundamentally on the student, where the teacher becomes a permanent facilitator. The virtual classroom as a new space for participation and learning constitutes a challenge for agricultural sciences and especially for Agricultural Engineering, especially in the Cuban context. The present work tries to determine the impact of the use of virtual classrooms in the Agricultural Engineering career of the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas. The research presented is exploratory and makes use of convenience sampling given the epidemiological situation in Cuba and Villa Clara. As techniques for the compilation of the information, the revision of documents and the questionnaire by mail were used. The study allowed, by determining the impact of the use of virtual classrooms, to reorient the teaching-learning process in the career under study.

Resumen

La incorporación de las Tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones al ámbito académico reviste gran importancia en el contexto actual. La Covid 2019 impacta en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje incentivando a docentes y estudiantes a encontrar nuevas vías de intercambio de conocimientos cada vez menos tradicionales. De ahí que las aulas virtuales presenten singular importancia en el contexto actual para el mundo y para Cuba. Ello implica un proceso de aprendizaje centrado fundamentalmente en el alumno, donde el profesor se convierte en un facilitador permanente. El aula virtual como nuevo espacio de participación y aprendizaje constituyen para las ciencias agrícolas y en especial para la Ingeniería Agrícola un reto, sobre todo en el contexto cubano. El presente trabajo pretende determinar el impacto del empleo de las aulas virtuales en la carrera de Ingeniería Agrícola de la Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas. La investigación que se presenta es exploratoria y hace uso del muestreo por conveniencia dada la situación epidemiológica que vive Cuba y Villa Clara. Como técnicas para la recopilación de la información se utilizaron la revisión de documentos y el cuestionario por correo. El estudio permitió mediante la determinación del impacto del empleo de las aulas virtuales, reorientar el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje en la carrera objeto de estudio.
