The temperature and humidity index as a potential problem for the development of bovine livestock in the province of Villa Clara, Cuba
The temperature and humidity index as a potential problem for the development of bovine livestock in the province of Villa Clara, Cuba

Abstract

The development of livestock, especially cattle, is closely related to climatic factors and the effects caused by it on livestock, and the consequences of these effects on their health, development and productivity, and the temperature index. and humidity (ITH) is the most widely used meteorological indicator to associate the effects of heat on cattle. Hence, the general objective of this research is to determine if the ITH constitutes a potential problem for the development of bovine livestock in the Villa Clara province, Cuba during the period 2010 - 2020 and from said situation propose solutions in order to solve the problems. shortcomings to achieve higher productivity rates. The meteorological information was obtained from the data of the maximum, average and minimum temperatures, as well as the monthly average relative humidity, respectively, collected during the years 2010 - 2020 in 10 meteorological stations of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) located in the study region. Mean monthly environmental temperature records (maximum and minimum) were analyzed, as well as daytime and nighttime temperatures and relative humidity. Mean, daytime, and nighttime ITH were calculated.
