Development of a CRIS through Semantic Web technologies for CITMA of Cuba

Abstract

The great development that Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) have achieved today has a great impact on the research of institutions where a large volume of information is generated as a result of their development and it is necessary to have systems that are capable of managing this information that adds value to the development of science.
The present work is aimed at explaining the foundations, characteristics and design of a Research Management Systems (CRIS) that allows providing information on the panorama of research, financing; the experience of researchers and the collaborations that occur inside and outside the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), at a national and international level. To this end, the principles of the CRIS and the technological base that provide support aimed at the use of the Semantic Web, interactions with users and other systems are defined.
As a result of the research, a system is obtained that makes it possible to manage large volumes of data related to research and researchers throughout the country, with the possibility of integrating with other systems such as digital repositories to form an exchange network.

Resumen

El gran desarrollo que han alcanzado las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (TIC) en la actualidad, tiene gran impacto en la investigación de las instituciones donde se genera gran volumen de información producto del desarrollo de estas y es necesario contar con sistemas que sean capaces de manejar esta información que añade valor al desarrollo de la ciencia.
El presente trabajo está orientado a explicar los fundamentos, características y el diseño de un Sistemas de Gestión de la Investigación (CRIS) que permite proporcionar información sobre el panorama de la investigación, la financiación; la experiencia de los investigadores y las colaboraciones que se produce dentro y fuera del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medio Ambiente (CITMA), a nivel nacional e internacional. Para ello se definen los principios de los CRIS y la base tecnológica que le dan soporte orientado al empleo de la Web Semántica, las interacciones con los usuarios y otros sistemas.
Como resultado de la investigación se obtiene un sistema que posibilita el manejo de grandes volúmenes de datos relacionados con la investigación y los investigadores en todo el país, con la posibilidad de integrase con otros sistemas como repositorios digitales para conformar una red de intercambio.
