Abstract
This study diagnoses the catastrophic overspeed failures in Hyundai fuel oil generator sets operating within Cuba’s National Electroenergetic System (SEN). The research identified an upward trend in these events, causing prolonged power generation outages and the potential asset decommissioning. Through comprehensive SCADA system analysis, technical evaluations (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic), services material testing, and the operators interviews, root causes were determined: violations in technology management and deficiencies in the operation and maintenance process. The implementation of corrective measures derived from the case of study significantly reduced failure recurrence. The case of study demonstrated that effective prevention requires optimizing predictive maintenance protocols and enhancing technical training
Resumen
Este estudio aborda el diagnóstico de fallos catastróficos por sobrevelocidad en grupos electrógenos Hyundai a fuel oil, operando en el Sistema Electroenergético Nacional (SEN) de Cuba. La investigación identificó una tendencia ascendente en estos eventos, que provocan interrupciones prolongadas en la generación eléctrica y la potencial baja técnica de los activos. Mediante un análisis integral del sistema SCADA, evaluaciones técnicas (eléctricas, mecánicas y neumáticas), pruebas de las materias de servicios y entrevistas al personal de operación, se determinó la causa raíz: violaciones en la gestión tecnológica y deficiencias en el proceso de gestión de la operación y el mantenimiento. La implementación de medidas correctivas derivadas del estudio redujo significativamente la recurrencia de estos fallos. El caso de estudio demostró que la prevención efectiva requiere optimizar protocolos de mantenimiento predictivo y reforzar la capacitación técnica.
