6th International Conference on Humanistic Studies 2023

Dear colleague:

The Faculty of Humanities of the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas, an institution of Excellence in Higher Education in Cuba, has the honor to invite you to the VI International Scientific Conference on Humanistic Studies 2023.

This conference is part of the IV International Scientific Convention on Science, Technology and Society (IV CCI) to be held from November 13 to 17, 2023 in the tourist destination Cayo Santa Maria in Villa Clara.

Among the main objectives of the event are to exchange scientific and academic criteria and promote the integration of diverse spheres of humanistic knowledge, disseminate positive experiences and evaluate the challenges and perspectives in the areas of language studies, didactics of foreign languages, art and literature, communication and media practices in the contemporary social and cultural context. To this end, the conference is organized in five workshops, with thematic axes centered on the areas of knowledge covered.

Workshop 1: Theoretical, descriptive and applied studies of languages in the contemporary social context

  • Phonetics and phonology

  • Morphosyntax

  • Lexicological, lexicographical and phraseological studies

  • Semantics

  • Discourse analysis and stylistics

  • Text linguistics

  • Pragmatic, semiotic and sociolinguistic analysis

  • Language policy

  • Comparative language studies. Inter- and multidisciplinary approaches

  • Languages in contact

  • Reading and Writing in Text Comprehension

  • Computational and Corpus Linguistics

  • Clinical Linguistics

Workshop 2: Art, literature and social dynamics in the contemporary cultural context.

  • Current situation of cultural and artistic-literary studies. Trends, methods, schools

  • The exercise of criticism in the scenarios of globalization, the market, cultural wars and new communication and information technologies

  • Art, literature, popular culture and mass culture in contemporaneity. Voices and images of the popular in art and literature

  • Oral literature and its contributions to current social and cultural dynamics

  • Artistic, literary and cultural studies with a gender approach. Trends and methods of analysis

  • Studies of particular works from Latin America and Cuba in particular

  • New creative, communicative practices and emerging literary genres in the conditions of cyberspace

  • Authors and works or groups of works from the Hispanic Caribbean. Perspectives provided by studies of insularity and "Caribbeanness"

Workshop 3: Information and communication management in contemporary societies

  • Logics of media production, distribution and consumption in scenarios of technological convergence.

  • Academic training in communication in the digital era. Challenges and perspectives

  • Realities and challenges of organizational communication management

  • Theoretical and methodological studies in communication

  • The role of communication in contemporary societies

  • Transdisciplinary perspectives

Workshop 4: Language teaching and development of competences in the educational field.

  • Integrated teaching-learning of languages and curricular contents

  • Creativity, innovation and perspectives in the teaching-learning process of foreign languages

  • Identity, diversity and intercultural communication for sustainable human development

  • Training and development of foreign language professionals

  • The role of the CEFR in the current educational context

  • The virtual teaching of foreign languages

  • The relationship between the translation-interpreting professional and the discourse

Workshop 5: Network of Cuban and Latin American cultural identity studies.

  • Continuities, rupture and emergence of the cultural in the current socioeconomic context

  • Youth identities from a sociocultural approach

  • Symbolic imaginaries and cultural identity

  • Heritage, Tourism and Identity

The event will be held in a hybrid format combining face-to-face and virtual modalities. 

Nationally and internationally renowned specialists will give keynote lectures and pre-event courses will be offered. They are already confirmed:

  • Course: Quantitative methods for linguistic analysis.

  • Keynote lecture: Political communication for the creation of public value.

Lecturer: Claudio Domingo Elórtegui Gómez (Chile).
