Dropping out of school is an unresolved global problem. The considerable and sustained dropout rates are a reality in the educational systems of the different regions of the world. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the dropout phenomenon is even more complex, so it is necessary to analyze possible predictor variables. The present study aimed to review the literature on student resilience and self-esteem as predictors of dropout intention. The available theoretical models and empirical evidence are reviewed. It is concluded that the variables described above are directly related to the dropout phenomenon; however, research proposals are needed to analyze their influence in greater depth and to advance towards the development of intervention programs.
El abandono de los estudios es una problemática mundial no resuelta. Las considerables y sostenidas tasas de abandono son una realidad en los sistemas educativos de las diferentes regiones del mundo. En América Latina y el Caribe el fenómeno del abandono es aún más complejo, por lo que se requiere analizan aquellas variables como posibles predictores. El presente estudio se propuso realizar una revisión de la literatura sobre la resiliencia y la autoestima del estudiantado como predictores de la intención de abandono estudiantil. Se revisa los modelos teóricos disponibles y evidencia empírica. Se concluye que las variables anteriormente descritas tienen directa relación con el fenómeno del abandono, sin embargo, se requiere comenzar a realizar propuestas de investigación para analizar en mayor profundidad su influencia y avanzar hacia el desarrollo de programas de intervención.
