The Caribbean is a region of marked racial multiplicity. Caribbean culture is a gigantic confluence of racial and ethnic components of the most varied nature. Therefore, its population has a multiethnic composition and a cultural and linguistic diversity. The Caribbean is divided, according to the colonizing power and the language, into a Spanish- speaking, French-speaking and English-speaking Caribbean; The present investigation focuses on the latter. In order to characterize the Caribbean, in relation to different issues such as race, the presence of myths and religious beliefs of the English-speaking Caribbean, has been taken into account a selection of stories from the collection Cuentos del Caribe. Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad-Tobago. Criteria and definitions are collected from different authors about Caribbeanism and the identifying features of the English-speaking literature. The Caribbean is defined as a confluence of ethnic groups, races, languages, beliefs, myths and cultures. A region that is both diverse and similar, since its origins and history have been responsible for intertwining, with similar patterns, the culture of the countries that make up the area. In this way, this research approaches the perspective that proposes intertwining history and culture, fundamentally, in relation to the cultural identity and the national identity of the Caribbean, specifically, of the English-speaking Caribbean peoples.
El Caribe es una región de marcada multiplicidad racial. La cultura caribeña es una confluencia gigantesca de componentes raciales y étnicos de la más variada índole. Por tanto, su población posee una composición multiétnica y una diversidad cultural y lingüística. El Caribe se divide, atendiendo a la potencia colonizadora y al idioma, en Caribe hispano hablante, francófono y anglófono; en este último se centra la presente investigación. Con el objetivo de caracterizar la caribeñidad, en relación a diferentes temas como la raza, la presencia de mitos y las creencias religiosas del caribe anglófono, se ha tenido en cuenta una selección de cuentos de la colección Cuentos del Caribe. Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad-Tobago. Se recogen criterios y definiciones de diferentes autores acerca de la caribeñidad y los rasgos identificativos de la literatura anglófona. Se define el Caribe como un espacio de confluencia de etnias, razas, idiomas, creencias, mitos y culturas. Una región a la vez diversa y similar, pues sus orígenes y la historia se han encargado de entrelazar, con pautas análogas, la cultura de los países que integran el área. De tal modo, esta investigación se acerca a la óptica que propone
entrelazar la historia y la cultura, fundamentalmente, en relación a la identidad cultural y la identidad nacional del Caribe, en específico, de los pueblos caribeños anglófonos.
