Discursive configuration of identitary images in three novels by Pablo René Estévez

Among the characteristic motifs of contemporary Cuban children’s narrative, one of the most outstanding thematic constants is the construction of an image or vision of Cuban cultural identity through strategies that include the characterization of certain characters, the configuration of spatial-temporal dimensions that refer to significant periods and contexts of the regional and national historical-cultural evolution and the insertion in the discourse of elements that become configuring marks of the Cuban. In correspondence with this, our objective is: Characterize the discursive strategies that become identity marks of the Cuban in three novels by Pablo René Estévez. The bibliographic-documentary method was used together with the textual analysis, which allowed us to base the theoretical-methodological framework of the research. Also, certain theoretical and methodological principles provided by the critical discourse analysis were taken as a basis of the present research. Among the main results, we can mention the contribution to the studies on national and local identity and culture from the analysis of three representative novels of the fin-de-siècle Cuban children and youth narrative and the resources that contribute to the modeling of a certain identity image from the perspective of a discursive analysis. In the trilogy studied, the articulation of a set of strategies that affect the configuration of an identity discourse based on the recreation of the epic and historical becoming of the Cuban nation and the humanistic inquiry into the characters and themes characteristic of the narrative of intrahistory was founded.

Entre los motivos característicos de la narrativa infantil cubana contemporánea, una de las constantes temáticas más sobresalientes es la construcción de una imagen o visión de la identidad cultural cubana a través de estrategias que abarcan la caracterización de determinados personajes, la configuración de dimensiones espacio-temporales que remiten a épocas y contextos significativos del devenir histórico-cultural regional y nacional y la inserción en el discurso de elementos que devienen marcas configuradoras de lo cubano. En consonancia con ello, se propone como objetivo: Caracterizar las estrategias discursivas que devienen marcas identitarias de lo cubano en tres novelas infantiles de Pablo René Estévez. Se empleó fundamentalmente el método bibliográfico-documental junto con el análisis textual, que permitió fundamentar el marco teórico-metodológico de la investigación. Asimismo, se tomaron como base determinados principios teóricos y metodológicos aportados por el análisis crítico del discurso. Entre los principales resultados destaca la contribución a los estudios sobre identidad y cultura nacional y local a partir del análisis de tres novelas representativas de la narrativa infanto-juvenil cubana finisecular y de los recursos que tributan a la modelación de una determinada imagen identitaria desde la perspectiva de un análisis discursivo. En la trilogía estudiada se constató la articulación de un conjunto de estrategias que inciden en la configuración de un discurso identitario basado en la recreación del devenir épico e histórico de la nación cubana y en la indagación humanista en los personajes y temas característicos de la narrativa de la intrahistoria.
