EXPANDING STUDENTS´ VOCABULARY RANGE IN ENGLISH THROUGH MOBILE

English language has spread all over the world permeating all areas of society. Its presence in the intellectual and scientific spheres highlights the significance of learning it. However, at the Universidad Central «Marta Abreu» de Las Villas the Preparatory Course students face some limitations concerning vocabulary, evidenced in some communication breakdowns in English. The purpose of this research is to propose the creation of an app to expand the vocabulary range of those students and to foster their fluency when communicating in English. Methods from the theoretical, empirical and mathematical level were applied and as a result, it was evidenced the poor systematization of vocabulary concerning certain topics as well as the lack of bibliography for learning and assessing vocabulary. Therefore, EVApp (the English Vocabulary App) was designed in order to tackle this disparity and was recognized by professors and students as a valid contribution to the degree course.

El idioma inglés se ha expandido por el mundo impregnando todos los niveles sociales. Su presencia en las esferas intelectuales y científicas resalta la importancia de su aprendizaje. Sin embargo, en la Universidad Central «Marta Abreu» de Las Villas los estudiantes del Curso Preparatorio enfrentan limitaciones con respecto al vocabulario, lo que se refleja en algunas fallas durante la comunicación en inglés. El objetivo de esta investigación es proponer la creación de una aplicación para ampliar la gama de vocabulario de estos estudiantes y fomentar su fluidez al comunicarse en inglés. Se emplearon métodos del nivel teórico, empírico y matemático; los que demostraron la pobre sistematización del vocabulario en algunos temas y la falta de bibliografía para aprender y evaluar vocabulario. Por tanto, se decidió crear a EVApp, (English Vocabulary App), una aplicación de vocabulario en inglés para solucionar esa disparidad y que fue reconocida por profesores y estudiantes como una contribución válida para la carrera.
