SEMANTIC CLASSIFICATION AND TRANSLATION OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION

Our paper is part of the FRASYTRAM (Translation and Multilingual Phraseology) project and research group, whose aim is to catalogue and classify syntactically and semantically Fixed Verbal Constructions (FVCs) in a large multilingual database, in order to extract from semantic fields the best possible phraseological equivalence. This objective is the one we followed in our doctoral thesis, applying it to the Phraseological Units (PU) extracted from different movies and series, in their original, translated and accessible versions: subtitling and dubbing. After analyzing and emptying these audiovisual contents, we followed the same procedure used in FRASYTRAM: we searched for the definitions of each UF, their register, variants, etc. In this way, we generate cards for each expression and they are grouped by concepts. Finally, we check their presence in the database and, if not, since many of them are oral, we proceed to include them in the database and in the translatological application. This type of semantic and syntactic classification within audiovisual translation and accessible audiovisual translation would be useful to respect the tenses or phonetics, the number of characters per subtitle line or the lip sync of the actors, we could even try to find an equivalence that maintains the same cultural load, level of use, among others. Having several equivalences in different languages for the same concept would allow the translator to choose the expression that best suits his or her translation needs.

Nuestro artículo se enmarca en el proyecto y grupo de investigación FRASYTRAM (Traducción y Fraseología Multilingüe), cuyo objetivo es catalogar y clasificar sintáctica y semánticamente Construcciones Verbales Fijas (CVF) en una gran base de datos multilingüe, para poder así extraer a partir de unos campos semánticos la mejor equivalencia fraseológica posible. Este objetivo es el que seguimos en nuestra tesis doctoral, aplicándolo a las Unidades Fraseológicas (UF) extraídas de diferentes películas y series, en sus versiones originales, traducidas y accesibles: subtitulación y doblaje. Tras analizar y vaciar estos contenidos audiovisuales, seguimos el mismo procedimiento utilizado en FRASYTRAM: buscamos las definiciones de cada UF, su registro, variantes, etc. Originamos de esta manera fichas para cada una de las expresiones y quedan agrupadas por conceptos. Finalmente, comprobamos su presencia en la base de datos y, en caso contrario, al ser muchas de ellas orales, procedemos a incluirlas en dicha base y en la aplicación traductológicas. Este tipo de clasificación semántica y sintáctica dentro de la traducción audiovisual y la traducción audiovisual accesible resultaría útil para respetar los tiempos o la fonética, el número de caracteres por línea de subtítulo o la sincronización labial de los actores, incluso podríamos intentar buscar una equivalencia que mantenga la misma carga cultural, nivel de uso, entre otros. Tener varias equivalencias en diferentes idiomas sobre un mismo concepto le permitiría al traductor escoger la expresión que mejor se adecue a sus necesidades traductológicas.
