COVID-19 is socially perceived as a virus that generates a pandemic disease. The article's objective was to understand the social perception of COVID-19 and the risk to get sick in view of the current epidemiological situation in Camagüey. It followed a qualitative approach of the phenomenological type. A purpose-guided sampling was carried out, which was the disposition of family and friends residing in the province. A qualitative questionnaire was applied, that was sent by WhatsApp, respecting the distance. In the meaning of the disease, the complexity attributed to it, the causality of the epidemiological situation and a growth of psychosocial concern were taken as a reference. A configuration of low probability to get sick is manifested in the subjects, which is evidenced in the beliefs of invulnerability and underestimation of risk. Regarding the isolation, reorganizations of routines appear that can be seen negatively or positively, depending on the adaptive capacities
Resumen
La COVID-19 se percibe socialmente como un virus generador de una enfermedad pandémica. El artículo se propuso como objetivo comprender la percepción social de la COVID-19 y el riesgo a enfermar ante la situación epidemiológica actual en Camagüey. Siguió un enfoque cualitativo del tipo fenomenológico. Se realizó un muestreo guiado por propósito, que fue la disposición de familiares y amigos residentes en la provincia. Se aplicó un cuestionario cualitativo que fue enviado vía WhatsApp, respetando el distanciamiento. En el significado de la enfermedad se tomó como referencia la complejidad que le atribuyen, la causalidad de la situación epidemiológica y un crecimiento de la inquietud psicosocial. Se manifiesta en los sujetos una configuración de baja probabilidad a enfermar, lo que se evidencia en las creencias de invulnerabilidad y subestimación de riesgo. En cuanto al aislamiento aparecen reorganizaciones de rutinas que pueden verse negativa o positivamente, dependiendo de las capacidades adaptativas.
