Childhood´s citizen participation & Public Space co-creation in Puerto Vallarta, México.

Puerto Vallarta is a coastal tourist city, located in the state of Jalisco in western Mexico, girls and boys represent 24.7% of the total population of this city, however their citizen participation for the configuration of the city does not develop, currently there is a centralization of public space surrounding tourism and away from their needs, therefore, the objective of the study is to know the physical characteristics and dynamics of appropriation existing in public spaces occupied daily by girls and boys, through an exercise of evaluation and co-creation that favors the citizen action of this age group, in this qualitative study participatory workshops will be developed in four different public spaces which were pre-selected based on the population density of children around them, using STEAM techniques that allow expressing the ideas and needs that children and their accompanying caregivers have, at the end of this study are expected to obtain the necessary qualities for the appropriate public space in each neighborhood of the sample, as well as strategies for citizen participation of children that complement the instruments of planning in force and promote sustainable urban development.

Puerto Vallarta es una ciudad turística costera, ubicada en el estado de Jalisco al occidente de México, las niñas y niños representan el 24.7% de la población total de esta ciudad, sin embargo su participación ciudadana para la configuración de la ciudad no se desarrolla, actualmente existe una centralización del espacio público entorno al turismo y alejado de sus necesidades, por esto, el objetivo del estudio es conocer las características físicas y las dinámicas de apropiación existentes en espacios públicos ocupados cotidianamente por niñas y niños, a través de un ejercicio de evaluación y co-creación que favorezca la acción ciudadana de este grupo etario, en este estudio cualitativo se desarrollaran talleres participativos en cuatro diferentes espacios públicos que fueron preseleccionados a partir de la densidad poblacional infantil que los rodea, utilizando técnicas STEAM que permitan expresar las ideas y necesidades que las infancias y sus cuidadores acompañantes tienen, al término de este estudio se esperan obtener las cualidades necesarias para el espacio público adecuado en cada barrio de la muestra, así como, estrategias para la participación ciudadana infantil que complementen los instrumentos de planeación vigente y favorezcan el desarrollo urbano sustentable.
