The History of Mathematics for the teaching of Mathematics.

Abstract

The History of Mathematics is a source of knowledge and an essential instrument for teaching this subject. Currently, the use of the didactic potential of the History of Mathematics in the teaching-learning process of this subject is insufficient. The historical references of the texts are limited. Teachers and students show little interest in the history of Mathematics. In addition to the limited knowledge of the History of Mathematics that teachers have, they do not know how to use it in the teaching-learning process of the subject. The objective of this work is to develop didactic alternatives for the use of the History of Mathematics in the development of the teaching-learning process of Mathematics Methodology: the following methods, techniques and procedures at the theoretical level were used: Hypothetical – deductive, analytical – synthetic, historical – logical, Modeling. From the empirical level: Document Review, Expert Criterion and Measurement.
Results and discussion: didactic alternatives were developed for the use of the History of Mathematics in teaching. They were applied in groups of students of the Mathematics Education Degree, in municipal methodological work sessions and postgraduate teaching. The acquisition of knowledge, interest and motivation regarding the way of imparting it was confirmed.
Conclusions: The Didactics of Mathematics requires the use of the History of Mathematics to improve the teaching and learning of this subject. The incorporation of didactic alternatives with this objective is an immediate need.

Resumen

La Historia de la Matemática es fuente de conocimiento e instrumento esencial para la enseñanza de esta asignatura. Actualmente es insuficiente la utilización de las potencialidades didácticas de la Historia de la Matemática en el proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje de esta asignatura. Las referencias históricas de los textos son limitadas. Los profesores y alumnos muestran poco interés en la historia de la Matemática. Además del conocimiento limitado de la Historia de la Matemática que poseen los profesores desconocen la forma de utilizarlo en el proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje de la asignatura.
El objetivo de este trabajo es elaborar alternativas didácticas para la utilización de la Historia de la Matemática en el desarrollo del proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje de la Matemática
Metodología: se emplearon los siguientes métodos, técnicas y procedimientos del nivel teórico: Hipotético – deductivo, analítico - sintético, histórico – lógico, Modelación. Del nivel empírico: la Revisión Documental, Criterio de expertos y Medición.
Resultados y discusión: se elaboraron alternativas didácticas para la utilización de la Historia de la Matemática en su enseñanza. Se aplicaron en los grupos de estudiantes de la Licenciatura Educación Matemática, en sesiones de trabajo metodológico municipales e impartición de postgrados. Se constató la adquisición de conocimientos, interés y motivación respecto a la forma de impartirlos.
Conclusiones: La Didáctica de la Matemática exige la utilización de la Historia de la Matemática para el perfeccionamiento de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de esta asignatura. La incorporación de alternativas didácticas con este objetivo es una necesidad inmediata.
