Chemical Engineering and its history at the Universidad de Oriente.

Abstract

The Universidad de Oriente (UO) founded on October 10, 1947 came to fill scientific needs; Its first faculties and careers were: Faculty of Engineering: Chemical-Industrial Engineering Career, which did not exist at the University of Havana; Faculty of Philosophy and Education: Philosophy-Letters major and Pedagogy major, and Faculty of Law and Business Sciences: Law major and Public Accountant major).

In the 75 years since the Universidad Oriente was founded, and with it the Chemical Engineering degree, there have been many personalities and professionals belonging to this technical branch of research who have raised the name of this house of great studies and especially of this profession. The honorable work of the dissimilar cloisters of professors responsible for the graduations of these generations of chemical engineers made our University the founder and National Rector Center of the career.

This review constitutes an approach to the history of the Chemical Engineering career at the Universidad de Oriente, a tribute to the professors and personalities who over the years have put professionals in this branch at the highest level. It provides an opportunity for the new generations of Chemical Engineers to learn about the emergence and establishment of their profession, thus linking themselves with the roots of our future profession.

Resumen

La Universidad de Oriente (UO) fundada el 10 de octubre de 1947 vino a llenar las necesidades científicas; Sus primeras facultades y carreras fueron: Facultad de Ingeniería: Carrera Ingeniería Químico-Industrial, la cual no existía en la Universidad de la Habana; Facultad de Filosofía y Educación: Carrera de Filosofía-Letras y carrera de Pedagogía, y Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Comerciales: carrera de Derecho y carrera de Contador Público).

En los 75 años de fundada la Universidad Oriente, y con ella la carrera de Ingeniería Química, muchas han sido las personalidades y profesionales pertenecientes a esta rama técnica de la investigación que han colocado en alto el nombre de esta casa de grandes estudios y en especial de esta profesión. La honorable laboral de los disímiles claustros de profesores responsables de las graduaciones de estas generaciones de ingenieros químicos convirtió a nuestra Universidad en fundadora y Centro Rector Nacional de la carrera.

Esta reseña constituye un acercamiento a la historia de la carrera Ingeniería Química en la Universidad de Oriente, un homenaje a los profesores y personalidades que a lo largo de los años han puesto en el más alto nivel a los profesionales de esta rama. Brinda una oportunidad a las nuevas generaciones de Ingenieros Químicos de conocer el surgimiento y asentamiento de su profesión, vinculándose así con las raíces de nuestra futura profesión.
