Abstract:
• Problem to deal with:
In the Ecuadorian context, university students make recurring errors when writing texts in English because of morphosyntactic transfer from Spanish. This interference compromises the quality of written discourse, limits communicative competence, and affects academic and professional performance. In the Central Highlands of Ecuador, it has been found that many university students make systematic errors when writing in English, errors that are directly related to the transfer of grammatical structures from Spanish. Despite institutional efforts and previous research, there remains a lack of comprehensive studies analyzing the individual, pedagogical, and sociocultural factors involved.
• Aims:
To characterize the linguistic interference of Spanish at the morphosyntactic level in the writing of texts in English by Spanish speakers in the Central Highlands of Ecuador.
• Methodology:
The research adopts a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, applying techniques such as document analysis, observation, surveys, and interviews.
• Results and Discussion:
Systematic patterns of interference were identified in word order, subject omission, verbal agreement, and incorrect use of articles. These errors are due to structural factors in Spanish, but also to pedagogical practices and sociolinguistic beliefs.
• Conclusions:
The study offers theoretical, methodological, and practical contributions to the field of English language acquisition as a foreign language and provides a basis for designing more effective teaching strategies in Spanish-speaking contexts.

Resumen:
• Problemática:
En el contexto ecuatoriano, los estudiantes universitarios presentan errores recurrentes al redactar textos en inglés, como resultado de la transferencia morfosintáctica del español. Esta interferencia compromete la calidad del discurso escrito, limita la competencia comunicativa y afecta el rendimiento académico y profesional. En particular, en la Sierra Central del Ecuador, se ha identificado que muchos estudiantes universitarios presentan errores sistemáticos al redactar en inglés, errores que responden directamente a la transferencia de estructuras gramaticales propias del español. Este tipo de interferencias no ocurre de forma aislada; por el contrario, constituye un patrón persistente que afecta la consolidación de competencias lingüísticas esenciales, con consecuencias negativas tanto en el rendimiento académico y en el proceso formativo.
• Objetivo(s):
Caracterizar la interferencia lingüística del español a nivel morfosintáctico en la redacción de textos en el idioma inglés por hispanohablantes en la Sierra Central del Ecuador.
• Metodología:
La investigación adopta un enfoque mixto, combinando métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos, es asi que se aplican técnicas como análisis documental, observación, encuestas y entrevistas.
• Resultados y Discusión:
Se identificaron patrones sistemáticos de interferencia en el orden de palabras, omisión de sujetos, concordancia verbal y uso incorrecto de artículos. Estos errores responden a factores estructurales del español, pero también a prácticas pedagógicas y creencias sociolingüísticas.
• Conclusiones:
El estudio ofrece aportes teóricos, metodológicos y prácticos al campo de la adquisición del inglés como lengua extranjera, y constituye una base para diseñar estrategias de enseñanza más eficaces en contextos hispanohablantes.
