The study of the young population in rural areas of Cuba acquires critical relevance in the face of three challenges of our reality: 1) accelerated population aging, 2) the behavior of migrations in the Cuban population and 3) the persistence of territorial inequalities deepened by the polycrisis that the country is experiencing. In this context, the central region of Cuba represents a key laboratory to analyze the intersections between these variables, particularly in the youth segment (15 to 35 years old) where high values of emigration, early fertility and unemployment converge.
This paper seeks to analyze the relationship between demographic dynamics and labor participation of rural youth in the central region of Cuba (Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos). Using demographic analysis, the behavior in the region of indicators such as: masculinity index, population structure by sex and age, specific fertility rates, adolescent fertility weight, migratory balances, unemployment rate, etc. are examined.
The results reveal a triple vulnerability: high adolescent fertility, triple impact of migration (rural to urban areas, internal and external migration), presence of labor informality. These results reinforce the urgency of making territorial adjustments to the policy of attention to the demographic dynamics outlined by the country and of carrying out intersectoral actions consistent with it.
El estudio de la población joven en zonas rurales de Cuba adquiere relevancia crítica ante tres desafíos de nuestra realidad: 1) acelerado envejecimiento poblacional, 2) el comportamiento de las migraciones en la población cubana y 3) la persistencia de desigualdades territoriales profundizadas por la policrisis que vive el país. En este contexto la región central de Cuba representa un laboratorio clave para analizar las intersecciones entre estas variables, particularmente en el segmento juvenil (15 a 35 años) donde convergen altos valores de emigración, fecundidad temprana y desocupación.
Esta ponencia busca analizar la relación entre dinámicas demográficas y participación laboral de los jóvenes rurales en región central de Cuba (Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus y Cienfuegos). Utilizando el análisis demográfico se examinan el comportamiento en la región de indicadores como: índice de masculinidad, estructura de la población por sexo y edad, tasas específicas de fecundidad, peso de fecundidad adolescente, saldos migratorios, tasa de desocupación, etc.
Los resultados revelan una triple vulnerabilidad: altos valores de fecundidad adolescente, triple impacto de la migración (zonas rurales hacia zonas urbanas, migración interna y externa), presencia de informalidad laboral. Estos resultados refuerzan la urgencia de realizar ajustes territoriales a la política de atención a la dinámica demográfica trazada por el país y de realizar acciones intersectoriales coherentes con la misma.
