4th International Symposium "Chemistry of natural products”
Abstract
Abstract:
• Problem: There is currently a global trend towards the discovery and inclusion of natural ingredients in cosmetic formulations. In this context, the fixed oil from the seeds of Chenopodium pallidicaule (cañihua) extracted with supercritical fluids can be a potential cosmetic ingredient due to its content of unsaturated fatty acids.
• Objective(s): To develop the clinical and safety evaluation of the cosmetic emulsion with Chenopodium pallidicaule oil "Cañihua".
• Methodology: The oil was extracted by supercritical fluids. The fatty acid profile was characterised using a gas chromatograph. Accelerated emulsion stability was assessed over a 90-day period. Clinical evaluation was performed on female volunteers aged 50-65 years for 28 days, measuring four skin parameters: hydration, sagging, radiance and reduction of frontal and periorbital wrinkles, and safety assessment was performed by a dermatologist.
• Results and discussion: Accelerated stability results showed that the emulsion did not show significant changes. Clinical evaluation showed an attenuating effect on frontal and periorbital wrinkles, as well as an improvement in hydration, flaccidity and luminosity on both sides of the face. Regarding the safety of the emulsion, no irritation was observed in any of the volunteers.
• Conclusions: The emulsion formulated with cañihua oil proved to be stable. Clinical evaluation revealed an attenuating effect on frontal and periorbital wrinkles and showed an improvement of facial skin hydration and luminosity and no skin irritation.
