This study proposes a critical analysis of the spectacularization of childhood, understood analogously as a process of hijacking higher mental functions. It starts from the premise that childhood becomes a hostage of the discourse of commodity, in which higher mental functions (such as language, attention, creativity, and abstract thinking) are reduced to consumer products, compromising human development in its entirety, and affecting the way the child subject is conceived today. The study seeks to examine the construction of childhood from a critical perspective, analyze the impacts of the modern conception of childhood on human development within the logic of the current socioeconomic system, and understand the psychic and social effects of this process on the constitution of childhood subjectivity. This research is theoretical and bibliographic in nature, drawing on the theoretical contributions of authors affiliated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory and the perspective of sociocultural psychology, whose contributions allow for thinking about childhood in its social, historical, and ideological dimensions. The early alienation of childhood experience, marked by the replacement of symbolic mediation with immediate and image-based stimuli, significantly affects the development of higher mental functions. The study also discusses how this process reinforces the logic of passivity and adaptation to the prevailing system, hindering the emergence of critical subjects. It concludes that the spectacularization of childhood functions as an instrument of ideological reproduction, displacing childhood from its formative dimension toward a performative and consumerist logic, which deeply compromises the constitution of subjects capable of exercising self-criticism in relation to society and its integrative power—one that tends to program life and the highly rationalized subsumption of the world, a context that highlights the dark side of Enlightenment in capitalist society.
Este estudio propone un análisis crítico de la espectacularización de la infancia, comprendida análogamente como un proceso de secuestro de las funciones mentales superiores. Se parte del presupuesto de que la infancia se convierte en rehén del discurso de la mercancía, en el que las funciones mentales superiores (como el lenguaje, la atención, la creatividad y el pensamiento abstracto) pasan a ser reducidas a productos de consumo, comprometiendo el desarrollo humano en su integralidad, además de impactar en la forma en que el sujeto infantil es concebido en la actualidad. Se busca observar la construcción de la infancia desde una perspectiva crítica, analizar los impactos de la concepción moderna de infancia en el desarrollo humano a partir de la lógica del sistema socioeconómico vigente y comprender los efectos psíquicos y sociales de este proceso en la constitución de la subjetividad infantil. La presente investigación es de naturaleza teórico-bibliográfica, a partir del recorte teórico de autores afiliados a la teoría crítica frankfurtiana y la perspectiva de la psicología sociocultural, cuyas contribuciones permiten pensar la infancia en su dimensión social, histórica e ideológica. La alienación precoz de la experiencia infantil, marcada por la sustitución de la mediación simbólica por estímulos imagéticos e inmediatistas, afecta significativamente el desarrollo de las funciones mentales superiores. Se discute, además, cómo este proceso refuerza la lógica de la pasividad y de la adaptación al sistema vigente, dificultando la emergencia de sujetos críticos. Se concluye que la espectacularización de la infancia actúa como instrumento de reproducción ideológica, desplazando la infancia de su dimensión formativa hacia una lógica performativa y consumista, lo que compromete profundamente la constitución de sujetos capaz de ejercer la autocrítica en relación con la sociedad y su poder integrador, que tiende a programar la vida y la subsunción altamente racionalizada del mundo, cuyo contexto resalta el lado oscuro de la ilustración en la sociedad capitalista.
