The University of Artemisa facing population aging. Considerations from the gender perspective

Abstract

The extension of life is one of the most significant goals for human beings. In recent years, population aging, as a phenomenon, has become widespread worldwide. Cuba does not remain outside of this situation. In the province of Artemisa, the female sex is marked by the condition of aging, they are not only quantitatively superior to the male sex, they are also the part of the population that reaches this age with the greatest physical and mental wear and tear and suffer greater inequality due to age concept. It is for this reason that, at a social level, strong work has been carried out to guarantee a high quality of life, a process that is accompanied by extensive social research that seeks to improve work systems to enable not only giving greater attention to adults in the elderly, giving priority to females, greater preparation should also be provided to young university students from the research and teaching areas regarding aging. In this sense, this research is proposed as:

Objective: to propose concrete strategies that allow an adequate preparation of the young people with a view to their subsequent arrival in the third age, seeking to eliminate discriminatory behaviors within the social spheres.

Resumen

La extensión de la vida constituye una de las metas más significativas para el ser humano. En los últimos años el envejecimiento poblacional, como fenómeno se ha generalizado a nivel mundial. Cuba no se mantiene al margen de esta situación. En la provincia de Artemisa el sexo femenino se encuentra marcado por la condición del envejecimiento, ya no solo son cuantitativamente superiores al sexo masculino, también son la parte de la población que arriban a esta edad con mayor desgate físico y mental y sufren mayor desigualdad por concepto de la edad. Es por este motivo que a nivel social se viene desarrollando un fuerte trabajo para garantizar una elevada calidad de vida, proceso que va acompañado de largas investigaciones sociales que buscan perfeccionar los sistemas de trabajo para posibilitar no solo dar una mayor atención a los adultos de la tercera edad dando prioridad a las de sexo femenino, también se debe brindar una mayor preparación a las jóvenes universitarias desde las áreas investigativas y docentes con respecto al envejecimiento. En este sentido la presente investigación se propone como:

Objetivo: proponer estrategias concretas que permitan una adecuada preparación de las jóvenes con vista a su posterior arribo a la tercera edad, buscando eliminar conductas discriminatorias dentro de las esferas sociales.
