COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE MOTIVATIONS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE FIRST NAME (1998 AND 2018)

The motivations for the selection of the first name in Cuba have been studied for decades, however, their variations and theirs references over time has not been deepened. Having this aim in mind, 452 surveys were applied to people who were born in the province of Villa Clara with two decades of differences (1998-2018). After analyzing the data, it is evident that in the family sphere, the parity between grandparents and parents has been lost, maximum references at the end of the last century and there is currently a marked tendency to use only the parents' firts names. In a general sense, the linguistic mechanisms for reproducing the names of relatives do not vary from one era to another: total copying, combination, keeping the initial letter, the first syllable, the endings, etc. The great technological changes and access to information made in Cuba have influenced the increase in first names selected for linguistic reasons. The new forms of audiovisual consumption have increased and transformed the taste for fictional paradigms: if in 1998 the names were drawn mainly from soap operas, in 2018 television series and movies are the preferred ones. The various real paradigms of two decades ago have been homogenized: boys take the firts names of singers while girls of actresses and participants in shows, soccer replaced other sports and historical personalities focus on queens and princesses.

Las motivaciones para la selección del nombre de pila en Cuba han sido estudiadas durante décadas, sin embargo, no se ha profundizado en la variación de ella y sus refentes a través del tiempo. Con ese objetivo se aplicaron 452 encuestas a personas nacidas en la provincia de Villa Clara con dos décadas de diferencias (1998-2018). Tras el análisis de los datos se evidencia que en el ámbito familiar se ha perdido la paridad entre abuelos y padres, máximos referentes a finales del siglo pasado y se advierte en la actualidad una marcada tendencia a utilizar solo el nombre de los padres. En sentido general los mecanismos lingüísticos para reproducir los nombres de familiares no varían entre una época y otra: copia total, combinación, mantención de la letra inicial, la primera sílaba, las terminaciones, etc. Los grandes cambios tecnológicos y de acceso a la información realizados en Cuba han influido en el aumento de nombres seleccionados por motivos lingüísticos. Las nuevas formas de consumo audiovisual han aumentado y transformado el gusto por los paradigmas de ficción: si en 1998 los nombres se extraían principalmente de telenovelas en 2018 las series de televisión y las películas son las preferidas. Los variados paradigmas reales de hace dos décadas se han homogenizado: los niños toman nombres de cantantes mientras que las niñas de actrices y participantes en shows, el futbol sustituyó a otros deportes y las personalidades históricas se centran en reinas y princesas.
