Constantino Suárez and his interest in phraseological units

A century has passed since the publication, in 1921, of the only edition of the Vocabulario cubano of Constantino Suárez. However, metalexicographic studies on the work are scarce and its theoretical projection and plan or method still need to be examined. The author presents with dominance and systematicity new aspects in the Cuban lexicographic tradition such as the treatment of phraseological units and includes a significant number of these units, which are not recorded in the previous provincialisms dictionaries. In this paper characterizes the lexicographic context in which the vocabulary is published and shows how the phraseological units are presented, ordered and lemmatized. In this way, an own phraseographic method is revealed, although reproductive of the work of previous lexicographers.

Ha transcurrido un siglo desde la publicación, en 1921, de la única edición del Vocabulario cubano de Constantino Suárez. Sin embargo, son escasos los estudios metalexicográficos sobre la obra y aún queda por examinar su proyección teórica y su plan o método, pero el autor presenta con dominio y sistematicidad aspectos novedosos en nuestra tradición lexicográfica como es el caso del tratamiento de las unidades fraseológicas (UF). Asimismo, llama la atención la presencia de UF que no se registran en los diccionarios de provincialismos anteriores. En este trabajo se sitúa la obra como parte del contexto de la lexicografía cubana y se muestra cómo se presentan, ordenan y lematizan las UF. De esta manera se revela un método fraseográfico propio, aunque en cierta medida reproductivo del quehacer de los lexicógrafos anteriores.
