LEARNING TO LEARN SKILLS IN MEDICAL STUDENTS. CIENFUEGOS

The training of learning-to-learn skills constitutes a basic need in medical students, it allows to prepare graduates to successfully face the demands of contemporary scientific-technical development.

Objective: To characterize the skills of learning to learn in second-year students of the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos.

Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional design, applied from January to April 2020 at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos, The instruments for the collection of information used were: questionnaire and interview with the students. The sample comprised 115 second-year medical students. Four variables were explored: skills related to the setting of personal goals and the temporal organization for their achievement, to understand and seek information, to communicate and to interact with others and those related to the approach and solution of problems.

Results: The skills to define goals and their importance are present in 82% and 83% of students respectively, 70.4% plan study time and 80% regulate their behavior. 76% identify the essential and 73% access internet sites, 83% consider expressing themselves adequately and 87% possess communication skills. 54% find solutions easily and 69% identify the essence of the tasks and 71% consider evaluating with fairness.

Conclusions: The development of learning-to-learn skills in second-year medical students is insufficient.

La formación de habilidades de aprender a aprender constituye una necesidad básica en los estudiantes de medicina, permite preparar a los egresados para enfrentar con éxito las exigencias del desarrollo científico-técnico contemporáneo.

Objetivo: Caracterizar las habilidades de aprender a aprender en estudiantes de segundo año de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Cienfuegos.

Métodos: Diseño descriptivo de corte trasversal, aplicado de enero a abril de 2020 en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Cienfuegos, Los instrumentos para la recolección de la información utilizados fueron: cuestionario y entrevista a los estudiantes. La muestra compuesta por 115 estudiantes de segundo año de medicina. Se exploraron cuatro variables: habilidades relacionadas con el planteamiento de metas personales y la organización temporal para su consecución, para comprender y buscar información, para comunicarse y para relacionarse con los demás y las relativas al planteamiento y solución de problemas.

Resultados: Las habilidades para definir metas y su importancia están presentes en el 82 % y 83% de los estudiantes respectivamente, el 70,4% planifica el tiempo de estudio y 80% regulan su comportamiento. El 76% identifican lo esencial y el 73% acceden a los sitios de internet, el 83% consideran expresarse adecuadamente y el 87% poseen habilidades comunicativas. El 54% encuentran soluciones fácilmente, el 69% identifica la esencia de las tareas y el 71% consideran evaluar con justeza.

Conclusiones: Es insuficiente el desarrollo de las habilidades de aprender a aprender en los estudiantes de segundo año de Medicina.
