Adherence to treatment in hypertensive patients in area 1 of Cienfuegos

Abstract

Introduction: The determination of adherence is essential when assessing the effectiveness and safety of prescribed pharmacological treatments. The present study was carried out with the objective of evaluating the level of adherence to antihypertensive treatment with enalapril in 95 patients from health area #1, municipality of Cienfuegos. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out to establish the degree of adherence, according to the Morisky-Green Test, and its possible association with sociodemographic factors. In addition, the treatment is examined, taking into account dosages, adverse reactions and interactions with other drugs. Results: In the sample studied, a higher percentage of married white and female patients was found in the age range of 65-74 years of age, with a predominant level of education at the Higher level. The doses of enalapril were adequate and the main potential interactions with NSAID, glucocorticoids and beta-2 adrenergics were detected. Conclusion: 51% of patients have a medium level of adherence, with self-medication and annoyance with treatment being the biggest problems.

Resumen

Introducción: La determinación de la adherencia es fundamental a la hora de valorar la efectividad y seguridad de los tratamientos farmacológicos prescritos. El presente estudio se efectuó con el objetivo de evaluar el nivel de adherencia al tratamiento antihipertensivo con enalapril en 95 pacientes del área de salud #1, municipio de Cienfuegos. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y de corte transversal para establecer grado de adherencia, según el Test de Morisky-Green, y su posible asociación con factores sociodemográficos. Además, se examina el tratamiento, teniendo en cuenta dosis, reacciones adversas e interacciones con otros fármacos. Resultados: En la muestra estudiada se encontró un mayor porcentaje de pacientes casados de raza blanca y sexo femenino en el rango etario de 65-74 años de edad, con un grado de escolaridad predominante en el nivel Superior. Las dosis de enalapril fueron adecuadas y se detectaron como principales interacciones potenciales con AINEs, glucocorticoides y beta-2 adrenérgicos. Conclusión: El 51 % de los pacientes tiene nivel de adherencia media, siendo la automedicación y el fastidio hacia el tratamiento los mayores problemas.
