Estereotipos de género deGender stereotypes from the Cuban audiovisualsde el audiovisual cubano

Abstract

For several years, being gay in Cuba represented a problem: the audiovisual media projected a predominantly misleading image of homosexuals. In the cinema it was not treated naturally: before the 1980s the protagonist of a film was never homosexual and is currently plagued by stereotypes that affect the realistic construction of a characterization of the LGBTIQ+ community. The authors analyze the content of some films that deal with the issue of homosexuality in our country and the evolution of the roles and meanings that have been linked to each one of them through the stereotypes rooted in society; demonstrating the importance of the representation of homosexual characters in audiovisuals, without resorting to stereotypical behaviors that do not at all reflect the reality of Cuban society that today proposes a normalization of the phenomenon with an inclusive and advanced Family Code for Latin America.

Resumen

Durante varios años ser gay en Cuba representaba un problema: los medios audiovisuales proyectaban una imagen predominantemente equívoca de los homosexuales. En el cine no se trataba de forma natural: antes de la década de 1980 nunca el/la protagonista de un filme fue homosexual y en la actualidad está plagada de estereotipos que afectan en la construcción realista de una caracterización de la comunidad LGBTIQ+. Las autoras analizan el contenido de algunos filmes que dan tratamiento al tema de la homosexualidad en nuestro país y a la evolución de los roles y significados que se han vinculado a cada uno de ellos a través de los estereotipos arraigados en la sociedad; demostrando la importancia de la representación de personajes homosexuales en los audiovisuales, sin acudir a estereotípicas conductas que no reflejan para nada la realidad de la sociedad cubana que hoy propone una normalización del fenómeno con un Código de las Familias inclusivo y avanzado para América Latina.
