Abstract
In the incidental portraits dedicated to Cubans by José Martí in his journalism, there are many obituaries that constitute a modality of Marti's portrait writing. As part of the line of studies aimed at characterizing Martí's biographical style, the present work resulted from the purpose of defining the incidental obituary. To this was added the objective of analyzing a sample of 13 inserted obituaries published in the Revista Universal de México in 1875 and in the newspaper Patria between 1892 and 1894. To that purpose, general research methods such as analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive and historical-logical were used, and textual analysis was used as the main specific method; in addition, document analysis and bibliographic and documentary review were used. The fundamental theoretical bases for the definition of inserted obituary were obtained from the conceptualizations of journalistic and historiographic genres and from the review of research and criticism on José Martí's journalistic work. The analysis of the sample was carried out extensively from elements such as the context, the conflict, the gender, the profession and the ethical valuation of the portrayed, as well as the newsworthiness of his death and the extension of the portrait. Thus, we intend to solve the gap identified in this area of Martí's studies and as a result we can count on the definition of incidental obituary and the preliminary characterization of the incidental obituaries that Martí dedicated to Cubans.
Resumen
En los retratos insertos dedicados a cubanos por José Martí en su periodismo se localizan no pocos obituarios que constituyen una modalidad de la retratística martiana. Como parte de la línea de estudios que se interesa por caracterizar el estilo biográfico martiano, el presente trabajo resultó del propósito de definir el obituario inserto. A ello se añadió el objetivo de analizar una muestra compuesta por 13 obituarios insertos publicados en la Revista Universal de México en 1875 y en el periódico Patria entre 1892 y 1894. Con este fin se emplearon métodos generales de investigación como el analítico-sintético, el inductivo-deductivo y el histórico-lógico y como método específico principal se empleó el análisis textual; se hizo uso, además, del análisis de documentos y de la revisión bibliográfica y documental. Las bases teóricas fundamentales para la definición de obituario inserto se obtuvieron de las conceptualizaciones de los géneros periodísticos e historiográficos y de la revisión de la investigación y crítica sobre la obra periodística de José Martí. El análisis de la muestra se realizó de forma extensiva a partir de elementos como: el contexto, el conflicto, el género, la profesión y la valoración ética del retratado, así como la noticiabilidad de su muerte y la extensión del retrato. Así se pretende solucionar el vacío identificado en esta zona de los estudios martianos y como resultado se puede contar con la definición de obituario inserto y la caracterización preliminar de los obituarios insertos que Martí dedicó a cubanos.
