Workshop 2: Art, literature and social dynamics in the cultural contemporany context
Abstract
The object of study of this research is La Nueva Araucana (2020) by Serafín Alfsen-Romussi, who escapes from the conventional aesthetics of the lyric poetry, producing a work of unspecific genre. In this sense and considering the inexistence of the state of the art, we propose an analysis of La Nueva Araucana, in part, as a documentary poem that incorporates archives of different nature, apparently disjointed. These are intervened by the author, leaving empty spaces of information, therefore the work acquires the characteristic of a non-finito poem, i.e. an incomplete poem, and thus requires a co-creating reader who solves the incompleteness and builds connections; in this way, a research that investigates the sources of the archives is applied. We work specifically with iconography of the indigenous peoples of Chile, a text concerning the colonial period and images, and documents concerning the Pacificación. As for the results, it can be determined that the intervened archives intend to produce a historical-cultural reflection, and these would act as ruins as testimonies that prolong and update the past. As conclusion, La Nueva Araucana would reiterate the existence of a not yet closed case regarding the reverberations of the events related by Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga in La Araucana. This research represents a contribution to the study of the contemporary rewritings of La Araucana, the founding poem of Chilean literature, which establish a new poetic pattern of reading the national reality of the last decades.
Resumen
La presente investigación tiene por objeto de estudio La Nueva Araucana (2020) de Serafín Alfsen-Romussi, quien escapa de la estética convencional de la lírica, produciendo una obra de género inespecífico. En este sentido y considerando la inexistencia del estado de arte, se propone un análisis de La Nueva Araucana, en parte, como un poema documental que incorpora archivos de diversa índole, en apariencia desarticulados. Estos son intervenidos por el autor, dejando espacios vacíos de información, por ello, la obra adquiere la característica de poema non-finito, aquel poema incompleto, y requiere pues un lector cocreador que solvente la incompletitud y trace los lazos de unión; de este modo, se aplica una pesquisa que indaga en las fuentes de los archivos. Se trabaja específicamente con iconografía de los pueblos indígenas de Chile, un texto e imágenes concernientes a la época colonial, y documentos que atañen a la Pacificación. En cuanto a los resultados, se puede determinar que los archivos intervenidos pretenden producir una reflexión histórico-cultural y estos actuarían como ruinas en tanto testimonios que prolongan y actualizan el pasado. Como conclusión, se puede establecer que La Nueva Araucana reiteraría la existencia de un caso aún no-clausurado respecto de las reverberaciones de los hechos relatados por Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga en La Araucana. La investigación representa una contribución para el estudio sobre las reescrituras contemporáneas de La Araucana, poema fundador de la literatura chilena, las que establecen una nueva pauta poética de lectura de la realidad nacional de las últimas décadas.
